What are dentures?
A denture replaces missing teeth. It helps you chew and speak more easily, and fills the gaps in your smile. You take it out to clean it.
What types of denture are there?
There are two main types:
- Partial dentures replace one or more missing teeth when you still have some of your own. They usually clip onto your natural teeth.
- Complete dentures (full dentures) replace all the teeth in your upper or lower jaw.
Dentures can be made of acrylic (plastic), or of acrylic on a thin metal frame.
Are dentures right for me?
They may be, if you have lost some or all of your teeth. They are also an option when implants or a bridge are not suitable. Your dentist will go through the choices with you.
How is a denture made?
- Your dentist examines your mouth and gums, and may take X-rays.
- They explain the options and the cost.
- Moulds (impressions) of your mouth are taken.
- Your bite is recorded, and you choose the shade and shape of the teeth.
- You try in a wax version, so you and your dentist can check the look and fit.
- The finished denture is fitted and adjusted.
- You come back for checks, so any sore spots can be eased.
How long does it take to make a denture?
Usually two to six visits over about four to eight weeks. These are estimates; the time and number of visits may vary after your dentist assesses your needs.
Getting used to a new denture can take a few weeks too. Speaking and eating often feel strange at first.
My new denture feels loose or rubs. What should I do?
This is common at first. Do not try to adjust it yourself. WhatsApp or call your clinic, and your dentist will check and adjust it.
How do I clean my denture?
Take it out and brush it every day with a soft brush, then rinse it. We will tell you how to store it overnight. Keep brushing your gums and any natural teeth too.
Do I still need check-ups?
Yes. Your gums and jaw change shape over time, so a denture may need adjusting, relining or replacing. Check-ups also look at the health of your whole mouth.
Does CHAS cover dentures?
Yes. Dentures are among the dental services CHAS subsidises for eligible cardholders at clinics that take part, within set limits. See the CHAS website for details.
All three of our clinics take part in CHAS.
How much does a denture cost?
It depends on the type of denture and the materials. You will know the cost before the moulds are taken, and you can also ask when you book.
How do I book?
WhatsApp or call the clinic nearest you: Ang Mo Kio Ave 10, Ang Mo Kio (Central) or Clementi. Each clinic’s numbers are on our clinics page, or you can send a booking request.
